1.) Honda is of Japanese descent, but was born in Los Angeles, California to a former NPB standout father and a pilot mother. From a young age, Honda pursued all sports, and even showed a strong affinity towards basketball. It wasn't until later that Honda's love for baseball blossomed. He settled as an outfielder, just like his dad, and showcased the potential of a five-tool star.
2.) Honda's early baseball career was interesting to say the least. With his father's playing days over, the family was unsure if they wanted to cement their roots in SoCal or make the move back to Kyoto. In the end, the family purchased homes in both locations, which led to a peculiar situation for the young ball player. Honda wound up playing a majority of his youth years with a California-based little league team, but wound up representing Japan in the LLWS. This has led to a disconnect between Honda and several of his peers, but the family believes they did what was best for themselves. And Honda earned a meaningful experience bouncing from country to country.
3.) Soild through and through. Honda isn't exceptional in any one aspect, but he doesn't have any clear weakness either. He's a very competent batter who can hit anywhere in the lineup for power or contact. In the field, he shines as a rangy center who can mask some of the shortcomings of the corner outfielders. He's not a menace on the basepaths, but he has the speed to leg out doubles and swipe a bag or two every now and again.
4.) Honda has been on team's radars for several years due to his pedigree, flashy glove, and solid pop. He'll likely have a spot waiting for him in NPB if SBL doesn't work out.
