Cid Ramirez Player Application Empty Cid Ramirez Player Application

Player Name: Cid Ramirez
Weight: 6'3" (190.5 cm)
Height: 205 lbs.
Age: 16
Gender: Male
1.) Backstory
Cid Ramirez was born in Cartagena, Colombia - the very same as his cousin and current Casper FC central defender Sydney Ramirez. He was the son of a barber and a local sports journalist - a father and mother with nearly oppositely-aligned career goals and interests who, in spite of their differences, carved out a live in their own little urban nook of Colombia. He grew up, like many Colombian boys, playing football in the streets and local fields, but had peculiar balance and wasn't especially fast. Even as a young child he was imaginative -- and because of his name often took on the moniker "El Cid" after the Spanish warlord when play-fighting as a knight in shining armor. A largely average student, Cid often shirked his school duties in favor or something more enjoyable (often sports), but he didn't happen upon baseball in-person until his mother brought him to work one crazy, hectic day.

2.) Past Baseball Experiences
Cid's first real baseball experience started with him attached to her hip at seven or eight years old during a 'take your child to work' event. A local sports journalist, his mother would cover small-time sports teams, and had only recently been asked to do regional and national league coverage with lower-priority sports. That was up-ended on one specific story with the Tigres de Cartagena of the Colombian Professional Baseball League. But Cid was nervous and a little intimidated by being around so many professional athletes (or worse yet, a few dozen feet away from his mother in a crowd of strangers) that he hardly paid any mind to them.

That changed when the game started and Cid had better-than-front-row seats to the Tigres game. He watched as high-speed pitches flew past the Caimanes de Barranquilla batters as the starter struck out one -- then two -- then three batters with apparent ease. He was excited, and suddenly had to be held back from running on to the field by his mother until she checked in with the Tigres bullpen about four or five innings in, knowing her son would be all-too-enthusiastic to get in on the action. The pitchers, noticing he'd warmed up to them, did some practice, short-distance catch with him -- and he'd pretend to be the starting pitcher, throwing the ball wildly (but thankfully not too far) from them. His passion for baseball -- especially pitching -- was born, and his story went viral on various Colombian baseball sites.

Realistically, his mother and father had no choice but to try to cultivate this interest, and he immediately took to playing youth baseball. He struggled mightily with pitching, but seemingly through sheer determination (and many, many hours with his father), managed to break through and become a competent youth pitcher. Having a little notoriety in the local sports world helped, and scouts for local travel teams offered him a spot just a few short years of recreational ball later. The rest, as they say, is history.

3.) What type of player are you?
Cid is a control freak pitcher, through and through. He thrives off of controlling precise strike zone locations, with and without significant movement on his pitches, and frustrating batters with pitches of different speeds and releases.

4.) Were you scouted? If not why did you choose the SBLM?
Cid Ramirez wasn't scouted extensively. Like his cousin Sydney, he was offered a chance at a brief camp with a North American team and his parents jumped at the offer in the States.

5.) Interesting facts about your player
Cid has never played pro or semi-pro baseball before, and he has never taken an official at-bat once he started playing travel baseball. He has excellent spatial awareness and is excellent at puzzles and games of strategy - given a little time, anyways.
He also plays the ukulele.
