Themed Task May 11th 2020- May 17th 2020

Hey, Hi & Hello SBLers

Themed Task of the weeks has 3 options.

Most Teams have submitted Home and Away Jerseys at this point but for this week I invite you to design some more jerseys for a SBL or a SBLM franchise.
You can use this link to design custom Jerseys, Sweaters and Caps.

Option One
A.) use the following link , http://www.ootputilities.com/ or The Justafan Program downloadable here to create 2 branded items for the released teams . (hats, Jerseys and sweaters are all applicable). Note if we like your deign it will likely become a 3rd jersey and displayed in special games or even the playoffs.
B.) You can also create a team banner or any type of other graphic based team branding. You can all thank @Troutstrong who asked me if i could extend this to include banners, mascots and other team branding.




Option Two

Write 200 words on a mascot suggestion for a team. The name, why he would be a good mascot and even the colors chosen can all be discussed on this article .

200 words Discuss the Branding that has been released was it good, bad or just plain ugly? What are your opinions? What had made you excited about the start up of the SBL and what are somethings that you think could have been improved on the branding end? You can even pick a team and describe what you would have done for the uniforms if you are not a graphics person.

My mascot suggestion for the Chicago Storm would have to be a lightning bolt. It just fits. It's something that is largely associated with storms and I think that a mascot like that we be absolutely electric. It would have to be one that has tons of energy and brings life that team and ball park. As for the colors, I guess you could really go with one of two things. I think that doing a greyish-black lightning bolt with red trim around it would be pretty cool to go along with the team colors. The other obvious option would be to just do the classic yellow for the mascot color. It's unoriginal but it would still work.

As for the name, I could list a few options. I would probably go with either Bolt, Striker, or Stormy. Any of the names listed would be perfect for the kind of mascot that this team needs and all of them would be fitting for sure but I think that maybe Bolt or Striker would work the best although I do like Stormy a lot. People probably wouldn't agree with me just because of how similar it is to the team name and that's completely understandable.

My mascot suggestion for the Indianapolis Invaders is, pretty obviously, an alien. I mean, it pretty much sets itself up. The logo is an alien, the team is called the Invaders, it just works. The mascot would be mainly purple, with his outfit being a mix between green and purple, mostly green, maybe a little blue thrown in there as well for a little more detail. A fun name for the mascot would be Marty the Martian, or just Marty for short. Alliteration is always fun for the young fans. I feel that it would also be fun if the mascot had a loudspeaker designed to look like a ray gun, and every time the Invaders hit a home run, he would blast the loudspeaker and have it make a typical ray gun sound. However, every time Indianapolis strikes out, the martian would run towards a cart designed as a little flying saucer and book it out of there. To add even more energy with this mascot, when halftime comes around, there could be a little event on the field where people are trying to catch the alien as he drives around in his UFO, eventually escaping from everyone's grasps. The mascot design itself is a bit basic but I feel that the actions are what really drives it home.

Option Three

200 words Discuss the Branding that has been released was it good, bad or just plain ugly? What are your opinions? I am definitely liking our brandings so far especially because they have all be super unique and have their own flavor to them. I would love to play for any of these teams to be honest. It is hard for me to say there is a logo or something I like best especially from my position but honestly it is that hard. So what I am going to do instead is select what teams I think have the best what.

1) Logo

Honestly, these are great and Bush did a great job putting them together for us. Out of all the logos though, the Vegas Centurions are my favorite I would say, the colors make the guy pop and it just looks really clean and also it makes for a nice discord image also. It was hard because I really like the tornado that the Storm have also and the feel of the Pioneers and Mohawks logos.

2) Color Scheme

Maybe it is because I know blue and orange from my PBE team the Outer Banks Aviators and while it is kind of a weird combination it works well so I have to go with the Sherbrooke Mohawks here in what my favorite color scheme is. I am a sucker for Red and Black (Pretty much all I wear in real life) and yellow and black as well because it is awesome but love the blue and orange.

3) Branding/Feel

For this one, I have to say I really like the feel I get from the Pittsburgh Pioneers, it feels like a good retro baseball team and the logo is clean. It has meaning behind it as well I believe in the name and generally I just get the best feel from it.

4) Branding/Coolest

Last but certainly not least, the Storm come in here with coolest branding, I mean, it is a cool looking tornado! The red and black is always a classic and going off of Chicago teams such as the bulls, it works well and most sim league teams I see being made in Chi-town are built off the red and black. It works. I think there is a lot you can do with this particular branding and get the coolest vibe from Chicago.

So far the SBL branding is pretty good. I mean, how dare you make a team based off of native Americans... And to add insult to injury, we're being offensive to white people too with the pioneers name. And then we have the anti-roman name too. How many groups of people can we offend with this branding. Let's offend our interstellar neighbors for good measure. How is that cartoonish caricature of a tornado even allowed. Poor Cardinals, they are currently the only animal based mascot in the league. Let's see how long this lasts.

Seriously tho, the logos are solid. I think I'd be proud to play for any of these teams. I'm definitely struggling to find words on this topic.

Charlotte, Pittsburg, Sherbrooke, Chicago, and Indianapolis are workable locations I guess. Every sim league needs a team or 3 in Texas. That is one thing that could be improved. But so far, I'm liking this league and I cannot wait to get started. Kurtis McKenzie rakes in any uniform.

We're I in charge of a team, I would head down to Texas. Perhaps the Brownsville Broncos? The colors would probably be dusty brown and orange. Either way, it's not about the branding, it's about the team building.

Option #2 and 3 sorta

I’m gonna talk about the Pittsburgh Pioneers here. Firstly of all, the name branding is cool, and I love how the team has stuck to the city of Pittsburgh’s affixation for the black/yellow color scheme. You can’t have a team representing Pittsburgh without that, so kudos to you.

To be honest with you - I think they’ve got the best logo to date for all of the teams revealed so far. A militant rocking the raccoon hat, that’s something I haven’t seen in sim leagues so you get bonus points right there. The American flag theme in the background of the logo is pretty cool too... it also flows with the color scheme and gives you that inspirational feeling of somebody two centuries ago roughing it up in the big bad old Wild West.

The person representation also makes me think of Davy Crockett rocking the raccoon hat. You don’t get any more American than Davy Crockett so that automatically gives Pittsburgh the lead in the logo/brand visual aspect. Crockett was a badass and a rifle-bearing American who wasn't afraid of nobody and would fight with the stock of his gun if he absolutely had to [aka run out of ammo].

My mascot for the Las Vegas Centurions is the Centur of Attention, a Las Vegas showgirl with the armored head of a centurion. There can be multiple Centurs of Attention within the same ball park, and they come together during the 7th inning stretch to provide a show that is worthy of Vegas to the audience.

I think it may be difficult to convince current Lass Vegas showgirls to lug around a giant mascot head or to wear full head armor for multiple hours, so this position will need to be promoted pretty strongly. Competitive pay, a chance to be in the Centurs of Attention yearly calendar, and opportunities to fill in for the team while actual baseball players are acquired.

Of the brands selected, I like the Pittsburgh Pioneers and the Chicago Storm the most. Those two seem like very marketable mindsets that would be easy to buy into, and their logos and proposed colors are pretty clean. Something that I think would have been cool for branding is if there were more teams with a natural geographic rivalry included. That can make figuring out which team you dislike the most easy in these leagues, and give teams something extra to play for in these games.
