The start of the SBL is coming ever closer, and as we see the created players rolling in – now eclipsing 25 applicants – the stage appears to be set for players at the same position to curry favor with the SBLM’s general managers. Unfortunately, because this is a new sim league, nobody knows who’s who unless they’re carrying over a username from a familiar sim league (e.g. EFL/SBA/VHL, or their money league counterparts SHL/NSFL).

Naturally, I can’t go on forever about all of the positions – so we’re going to focus on the infield, following the path of a batter past 1B and 2B. In our next edition, we’ll take a look at the second half of the infielders (SS and 3B), then round out the players closest to the plate with pitchers and catchers before taking a trip to the outfield!

So let’s take a brief look at each group by position and see who’s got the most notable names… or if someone’s working behind the scenes to get noticed without their typical moniker!

Created Players By Position – 1B and 2B DivingBackTo1st

First Base (1B)
Jason Bourne (@fonziGG)
Rocky Mitchell (@Lefty)
Tracy Prezzy Jr. (@prezzys)

First up is… well, who’s on first, featuring a trio of candidates that are sure to wow the sim league faithful. First up is minor league GM player Tracy Prezzy Jr., whose agent (prezzys) may be best known for his exceptional work with fourth-year SBA pro Steven Prezzy Jr. The fact that Prezzy Jr. is a GM player immediately drives his anticipated ceiling up, even if he’s not eligible to be drafted by any of the other minor league teams. Indeed, with Prezzy’s first-ever SBL team reveal, Prezzy Jr. becomes the first player with a known major league team right off the bat!

Lefty’s first baseman Rocky Mitchell is another top-priority signee – and although he hasn’t done his team reveal yet, Mitchell is a second player with a known professional destination (well, in theory anyways). An EFL veteran, Lefty currently leads the Athens Carnage in the ECFA – and his managing experience is a highly-demanded one in a brand-new sim league. Filling such an important hitting-first position is going to be a tremendous boon to these professional teams, and with these first two already very likely stars, the expectations rise for –

Jesus Christ, is that Jason Bourne!? The former assassin has taken his leave of the CIA and plans on taking down pitchers’ win rates and driving up their ERAs instead of international men of mystery. Known for brilliant SBA players like Ellen DeGeneres and Judge Judy, as well as the VHL’s high-flying Malmo Nighthawk Michael Johnson, fonzi has a track record of successful players and lands in the SBL as an intriguing prospect at the least or a first-round prospect at his best.

Second Base (2B)
Delvin Rooks (@AW13)
Golden Goliath (@StackTheRacks12)

Although we have just two second basemen at this second, they’re two of the league’s most formidable. The first is Delvin Rooks, an infielder created by AW13 – the league’s owner and top administrator! Very little else needs to be said about Rooks, who appears to have the trappings of a high-quality contact player against righties, the ability to steal bases with the best of ‘em, and classic second base defensive ratings. A user with plenty of experience in the EFL, AW13 has headed up the San Antonio Wolfpack and has his hands in nearly every major PT league and multiple player bank leagues. If there’s such thing as a ‘sure bet’ in the draft, it’d have to be Rooks.

Filling out the second of this elite position group is Golden Goliath, a self-described thicc boi who’s the polar opposite of Rooks from a hitting perspective. Instead of contact and asymmetric proficiency, Goliath takes the edge off of finesse and goes for raw, unadulterated home run hitting power from pitchers pitching from either side.  His agent, StackTheRacks12, is a quantity best known to EFL aficionados as the cap’n of the Biscayne Bay Pirates(hip). Provided his success in that league – as well as his two shiny recent first-round selections Apollo and Clinton King – it looks like there aren’t any options for second basemen that aren’t top tier.

Well, we're through two positions and haven't seen anyone working incognito quite yet... but will that stay the case when we look at our shortstops and third basemen? Tune in next time!
