SBLM S0 Draft Review

Which round in the SBLM S0 draft performed the best in S0? I'll be looking at the total WAR accumulated by the 4 picks in each of the first 7 rounds to answer this burning question. This is not a measurement of anything expect last seasons on field success from each of these players.

Round 1: 15.5 Total WAR
Caramel Delight (.262 average, 19 HR, 2.9 WAR)
Cid Ramirez (2.76 ERA, .98 WHIP, 3.4 WAR)
Sora Mekajiki (.313/.361/.461, 20 HR, 4.8 WAR)
Devin Rooks (.249 average, 16 HR, 4.4 WAR)

Obviously, you'd expect four studs to be taken in the first round. You should not be disappointed. Arguably the best pitcher drafted, the top catcher, and the top center fielder were among the first four taken. Devin Rooks was taken with the 4th pick. Although his offense left something to be desired, he put up probably the best defensive season in the league regardless of position.

Round 2: 15.9 Total WAR
Magnus Coretti (3.61 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, 1.9 WAR)
Lucas Peterson (.286/.369/.396, 4.6 WAR)
Rocky Mitchell (.286/.365/.535, 36 HR, 4.9 WAR)
James Boxman (3.93 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, 4.5 WAR)

With a top 3 MVP candidate, the league's best all around shortstop, and two solid pitchers, round 2 picks produced more total WAR than their round 1 counterparts. Also, at a glance, I find it odd the WAR disparity between Boxman and Coretti.

Round 3: Total WAR 13.1
Dale Cooper (.273/.353/.413, 5.0 WAR)
Domingo Rodriguez (42.1 IP, 2.98 ERA, 1.30 WHIP, 11 Saves, 0.9 WAR)
Mario McRlwain (3.16 ERA. 1.14 WHIP, 3.7 WAR)
Sphyrna Lewin (.272/.330/.357, 3.5 WAR)

Round 3 features two potential gold glovers and Sherbrookes ace pitcher. The total war is negatively affected by Domingo Rodriguez acting as his team's closer.

Round 4: Total WAR 15.0
Tracy Prezzy Jr (.317/.359/.490, 3.9 WAR)
Golden Goliath (.275/.372/.428, 3.8 WAR)
Captain Snowball (.261/.353/.425, 3.1 WAR)
Captain Hook (3.48 ERA, 1.32 WHIP, 4.2 WAR)

The ace pitcher for the league's best team, and the season's batting average leader headline round 4. Sandwiched in between are 2 guys who had very solid if unspectacular seasons. We aren't seeing a ton of difference in the overall quality of rounds as of yet.

Round 5: Total WAR 6.9
Brian Strong (.284/.364/.459, 64 steals, 5.2 WAR)
Wally Coleman (.226/.286/.275, 0.5 WAR)
Alex Gregorius (.237/.333/.363, -0.6 WAR)
Erik Shawn (13 GS, 4.34 ERA, 1.43 WHIP, 1.8 WAR)

Brian Strong is a legitimate MVP candidate. The rest of round 5 struggled. Coleman just didn't produce on offense. Gregorius struggled all season in all aspects of the game. And finally, Erik Shawn was pulled from the rotation midway through the season... Ouch.

Round 6: Total WAR 13.1
Carlos Delagdo (.290/.353/.524, 31 HR, 4.3 WAR)
Kurtis McKenzie (.311/.372/.541, 34 HR, 5.3 WAR)
Nate Nitro (3.50 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, 2.8 WAR)
Original Dale Cooper (3.07 ERA, 1.30 WHIP, 34 Saves, 0.7 WAR)

After a disappointing round 5, things picked back up in the 6th. Top 5 batters? The 6th round saw 2 of them selected back to back. Nate Nitro was a strong starter all season long, and Orignal Dale Cooper was a stalwart in the Pioneers bullpen.

Round 7:Total WAR 10.8

Hunter Scott (.302/.393/.400, 2.9 WAR)
Jason Bourne (.279.347.496, 30 HR, 4.3 WAR)
Connor Dyson (4.15 ERA, 1.48 WHIP, 30 Saves, 0.4 WAR)
Flynn Fungo (.294/.374/.418, 68 SB, 3.2 WAR)

The 7th round saw 2 guys (Bourne and Scott) really out perform their TPE earning. Round 7 also saw one of the hardest workers in the draft finally taken. Fungo terrorised opposing defenses. The only thing in his way was that he was forced to play out of position on defense.
