Nitro and HR Kid Talks Championships Empty Nitro and HR Kid Talks Championships

Sat Aug 22, 2020 10:08 am
The first season of the SBL/SBLM is officially over, and for Cornholio’s player agency, it has been a golden one. Starting pitcher Nate Nitro and outfielder Home Run Kid Walked away with a Championship in the SBL and the SBLM respectively. If you look at these two players and their teams, there are a lot of similarities, more than one would initially think.

Nitro and his Indianapolis Invaders were the best team in the regular Season from Game number 1 to Game number 120. While they were threatened for a bit by the Toronto Bighorns for the number one seed and the all-so-important home field advantage and a berth into the World Series — the Invaders were able to hold the Bighorns off. Fast forward a few weeks later and it ended up being a rematch of these two aforementioned teams. Both teams fielded strong top-end outing, but the difference between them was that Toronto played small ball while Indianapolis was a little more reliant on the big plays and timely hits.

In an interesting turn of events, Indianapolis swapped Beatrix Ajax and Nate Nitro in the starting rotation and it worked out in their favor. Ajax picked up two solid outings and wins in both Game 1 and 4 while Nitro was a disappointment in his two outings. Nitro took the loss in Game 2 and was shellacked in Game 5, not even making it out of the third inning. Fortunately the Invaders’ bullpen clamped up the Bighorns’ offense and the Indy batters picked up the slack Em route to a 5-game Series victory. Nitro was happy to have come away with a Title, but had a bittersweet taste in his mouth because of how he pitched in the spotlight under immense postseason pressure. There is some work yet to do on Nitro’s game, but his team is in good shape.

Home Run Kid, much like Nitro, emerged victorious in the end as his Sherbrooke Mohawks walked away with a commanding 5-game Championship series win over the Las Vegas Centurions. These two teams met in the semifinals last year where the Mohawks stunned the Centurions. So there were some bad blood and Vegas was looking for revenge, especially considering Vegas swept Sherbrooke in a four-game series to close out the regular season.

Vegas won Game 1 in a tightly contested pitching duel, coming on top by the final score of 3-2. Sherbrooke returned the favor in Game 2, as Home Run Kid came through with a two-run homerun, accounting for both of Sherbrooke’s runs in a 2-1 win to knot the series up at 1 apiece. The next two games would see Sherbrooke blow Vegas out of the water as the games were never in doubt. HOme Run kid picked up another home run in Game 4, living up to his name under immense pressure. Sherbrooke would close out in 5 in a close 3-1 win, giving Home Run Kid his first championship in his lone SBLM season.

Home Run Kid is happy that he got a championship, but he has his eyes on bigger things and bigger prizes in the SBL. He isn’t expected to go early in the draft, but HR Kid will make sure whoever passes up on him will regret it.

It has been a good season for the Cornholio player agency and I look forward to more seasons coming up for these two players as well as for the league itself!
