Usually in our series we capture multiple quotes from players who stepped up for their teams when they were needed the most, but for this week we have a special edition where one player stepped up to an extent not yet seen on this site before.

On Field Reports Special Edition: The League's First No-Hitter T_500x300

Pictured here is Chien-Ming Wang @Goliathus , the 7th overall pick the S1 SBLM Draft to the Sherbrooke Mohawks. Wang was the 5th pitcher off the board in that draft, and has quickly proven is season 1 of the SBLM that this was a mistake. In 15 games started this season, Wang has 14 quality starts. He is 10-1 with a 1.48 ERA, with his ERA being 1st in the league and his win total being tied for 1st. Wang is also 1st in the SBLM for Innings Pitched, Strikeouts, K/BB, WHIP, Hits/9 innings, Opponents' Avg., Opponents' OBP, Opponents' SLG., Opponents' OPS, and WAR amongst pitchers. In fact, Wang only trails teammate (and 1st round pick for Sherbrooke) Wade Landry in WAR even when compared with position players. Long story short: Even with the season being only half over it appears abundantly clear that Chien-Ming Wang is the best pitcher in the SBLM.

But this article is dedicated to one specific performance that Wang had that will put his name in the record books heading forward. On 05/08 of this season, the Sherbrooke Mohawks took on the Vegas Centurions at home with Wang on the mound. Wang walked the first batter of the game that he faced in Salomon Rrmier, but forced Captain Snowball to ground into a double play to retire the side in order in the first. In the bottom of the 5th and the bottom of the 6th Wang struck out 4 of the 6 batters he faced, 4 of a total 11 strikeouts he would record i the contest. In the bottom of the 7th the leadoff batter reached due to an error, but Wang intentionally walked a batter and forced yet another double play to work out of trouble again.

In the top of the 9th inning Wang struck out the first two batters he faced, before he issues his 3rd walk of the night with two outs. With the no-hitter still in-tact, Salomon Rrmier (who had reached base 3x this game, twice via walk and once via error) tried to steal second base, ad catcher Ryoma Fukashima gunned him down. Chien-Ming Wang had successfully thrown 9 IP of 0 hit baseball for the first time in SBL history, but there was one thing that had gone wrong: Sherbrooke was scoreless too.

Dueling against Wang today was Reanna Beach for Vegas, who had given up 8 hits to the Mohawks but had managed to hold them scoreless through 8 IP. Now in the bottom of the 9th with the game still tied at 0-0, Wang sat in the dugout with 132 pitches thrown, knowing that his night was likely done regardless of what happened in the bottom of the 9th. For Beach, his night was finished after 8 and he was pulled in favor of Berocka McGrath. McGrath made a mistake though, giving up a 374 foot HR to Devin Lewin @zekethatbeast25 in the bottom of the 9th, and Sherbrooke had successfully managed to get Wang the no-hitter that he so deserved. An instant-classic between the Mohawks and the Centurions that will not soon be forgotten, and a unforgettable game for the best pitcher in the SBLM
