Mario McRlwain: A analysis of his talent Empty Mario McRlwain: A analysis of his talent

Tue May 05, 2020 2:00 pm
Mario McRlwain is a pitcher who stands 6'2" tall and weighs 185 pounds. He has a dream of making it to the SBL, but he will have to work hard if he wants to accomplish this goal. To best understand his attempt to make the SBL, one must examine everything about his game.

First, one must examine his chosen pitching arm and his chosen arm slot. He is a southpaw sidewinder. This means that he is a left-handed pitcher who throws his pitches from the sidearm arm slot. With his chosen arm slot, he tends to pitch best against batters who bat on the same side as he pitches (which is left-handed batters).

Next, one must examine his chosen pitch arsenal. This arsenal is made up of a cutter, a screwball, and a slider. These pitches allow him to go after the batters that he faces and keep them on their toes. He uses his cutter and screwball to attack opposite handed batters, by throwing the pitch almost right at them just for it to break back into the strike zone. Additionally, he can use his slider in the same way, but against left-handed batters. Having these options as pitches allow him to keep the batter off balance and allow him to control the count.

In addition to his pitching arsenal, his chosen pitching arm, and his chosen arm slot, there are a couple other aspects to his pitching that help make him one of the best pitching prospects. The first to be mentioned is the movement of his pitches. He is able to make his pitches break suddenly. This keeps the opposing batters to be on their toes as they attempt to guess where the ball will end up being. In addition to this, Mario also excels at, when the batters end up making contact, making the batters hit grounders. This keeps the batters from getting very many extra base hits.

While looking at a pitcher's strengths can be very beneficial to analyzing their abilities, one can not fully understand a pitcher without examining the pitcher's weaknesses. The first weakness that Mario struggles with is his control. When compared to other pitchers, he is not as good as they are at controlling where the ball will end up. In addition, he can not throw as fast as other pitchers can. While some pitchers can reach the upper nineties and sometimes even hit one hundred, he can only reach around ninety at the moment and will most likely reach his max at around ninety four. Lastly, he does not have a true fastball like many others do. He uses a cutter in replace of a regular four-seam or two-seam fastball.

In the end, Mario McRlwain shows a lot of potential as he attempts to make it to the SBL. While he does have areas in which he needs to improve, he is still a wonderful pitcher and has a chance to even make it into the hall of fame if he works hard enough. However, only time will tell if he lives up to his potential.
