Top Pitching Performances

News flash, the pitchers of the SBLM are holding their own. Offense is plentiful to be sure, but the guys like Cid Ramirez, Magnus Coretti, and Captain Hook are well able to shut an offense down. With that being said, the index lists the top 25 performances ranked by game score. Let's take a look at this list and see what we can discover.

Cid Ramirez and James Boxman have the most appearances on list with 4 each. Boxman first appears at #10 on the list. That was a May 4th CGSO of Chicago in which he allowed 7 hits and stuck out 5 batters. OOTP gives this game a score of 78. Somehow, Cid Ramirez first appears at spot #21. On May 6th versus Miami, Ramirez held the Flamingos to a mere 4 baserunners and allowed 1 run across 7 innings. This efficient 80 pitch outing received a 75 game score. Surprisingly, the vaunted Flamingos offense appears most regularly on the receiving end of a stellar pitching performance.

Of course, the man with the league's best ERA appears on this list. On May 9th, Ezekiel Bridges pitched against the Flamingos. He got through 8 innings needing only 82 pitches. He allowed 5 total baserunners and 1 earned run. The Storm closer was given the ball in the 9th with his team up 3-1. Hype Man managed to throw 42 pitches, allow 6 runs, while only recording 2 outs. Hype!

Fortunately for Bridges, his 2nd best game score ended with a much better result. He pitched 9 shutout innings versus the unstoppable Mohawks offense. Somehow, he recorded 27 outs with only 2 Ks. I'm not sure if that says more for about him, or the Mohawks plate discipline. Either way, a win is a win, and this win earns a top 20 spot on the list.

Perhaps most notably, a combined 4 pitchers from Redwood City and Miami had top 25 pitching performances this season. Coming in at #6 on the list, Aurora Tropicalis pitched 8 shutout innings versus Vegas. She dominated on her way to a 1-0 win. Where is she now? Tropicalis carries a 3-6 record with a 5.88 ERA and 1.74 WHIP. Perhaps here teammate Florence Cockatiel had better luck?  Her #15 rated performance included 9 innings, 9 baserunners, 9 Ks, and a 6-1 victory versus Chicago. She is medicore otherwise, with a 4.44 ERA and 1.42 WHIP on the season.

Redwoods top 2 pitching performances came from two guys who actually have been good in more than 1 game. Somehow, Hans Wirken sports a 7-1 record despite playing for the leagues worst team. His 3.27 ERA and 1.34 WHIP are both strong numbers. However, his teammate and fellow top performer Christy Andrewson's 3.49 ERA and 1.21 WHIP have earned him a 1-6 record. The team makes sure to score on Wirken days. Wirken's best game came against Chicago. In 8 innings, he allowed 2 hits and 1 run, striking out 7 in a 3-1 victory. Andrewson, on the other hand, went 8 innings versus Pittsburgh. He allowed 5 men on base, and stuck out 10. The closer allowed 3, and the team lost 4-2.

Who owns the top 3 performances this season? At #3, we find Magnus Coretti's 4 hitter CGSO versus Vegas. At #2, Chien-Ming Wang shutout Redwood and tallied 10 Ks. At #1? Who else? Captain Hook did the impossible... He pitched a CGSO versus Redwood. (Wait, you're telling me that's not hard to do?) Still, his 4 baserunner, 5 K outing earned him a league record 85 game score. How long will it hold? And when will the league see it's first no hitter?

*CGSO- Complete game shut out.
*WHIP- Walks+Hits/Innings Pitched
*What is game score?
